How to Use ChatGPT to Plan a Month of Content in Minutes
Let’s Be Honest: Content Planning Can Feel Like a Full-Time Job! If you’re running a business, a ministry, or a mission-driven brand… social media is just one piece of the puzzle. And yet, it demands constant feeding.
Coming up with fresh content every week—let alone every month—can feel like chasing a hungry toddler with a tray of chicken nuggets: exhausting and never-ending.
Here’s the good news: you don’t have to reinvent the wheel every time.
By using ChatGPT strategically, you can plan an entire month of content in less than 30 minutes—and walk away with more than just random post ideas. We’re talking fully aligned, mission-forward, audience-focused content.
Let’s break it down.
Step 1: Start with Your Content Pillars
If you haven’t defined these yet, start here. (Or check out our blog post: Content Pillars: The Secret to Planning Like a Pro)
Prompt ChatGPT with:
“Help me create 3–5 content pillars for a [describe your business] that wants to grow on Instagram and serve [describe your audience].”
For example:
“Help me create content pillars for a Catholic publishing company that wants to grow on Instagram and serve busy moms.”
This gives structure to what you’re posting—and tells ChatGPT how to think.
Step 2: Ask for Post Ideas by Pillar
Once your pillars are in place, have ChatGPT generate content ideas for each one:
“Give me 5 Instagram post ideas for the content pillar 'behind the scenes' for a Catholic author.”
“Now give me 5 post ideas for the content pillar 'education' for a Catholic school.”
Repeat for each pillar, and suddenly you have 20–30 ideas to work with.
✅ Pro tip: Ask for a mix of content formats—carousels, Reels, static images, etc.
Step 3: Add in Your Key Dates
Content planning isn’t just about being clever—it’s also about being timely.
Let ChatGPT help you brainstorm content around:
Liturgical seasons: “What Catholic feast days are coming up in [month]?”
Business campaigns: “Write 3 posts to promote a [product/service/event] in [month].”
Secular trends: “What national holidays or trending topics are in [month] that would resonate with Catholic parents?”
Use these dates to anchor your content and fill in your calendar.
Step 4: Create a Content Calendar
Now that you’ve got your ideas, ask ChatGPT to organize them:
“Create a 4-week content calendar using the post ideas we brainstormed. Include content pillar labels and suggested formats (Reel, carousel, story, etc.).”
You can even copy/paste the results into Google Sheets, Notion, Trello, or your planning tool of choice.
Step 5: Ask for Captions or Scripts
No time to write captions from scratch? Delegate!
“Write an Instagram carousel caption for this idea: [insert idea]. Make it friendly, on-brand, and less than 150 words.”
“Write a short Reel script that starts with a hook for this topic: [insert topic].”
You can generate multiple versions, tweak to match your voice, and save your brainpower for the personal touches.
Step 6: Keep What Works, Repurpose the Rest
When you review your past content, use ChatGPT to help identify and repurpose:
“Write a new caption using this high-performing caption from last month, but change the format to be a hook-and-story style post.”
“Turn this blog post into a LinkedIn post and a carousel for Instagram.”
You already have good content. ChatGPT just helps you reuse it strategically.
Final Thoughts: Let the Robot Help—But Keep the Mission Human
The goal of content planning isn’t to sound robotic—it’s to create space for real connection.
ChatGPT is an assistant, not a replacement for your voice or your heart. But if it helps you show up more consistently, with less burnout, and more clarity?
That’s a tool worth using.
